Community Service Hours

Algebra Nation is a highly effective, interactive, online resource designed to help students succeed in high school math. Algebra students have access to a Algebra Wall where they can ask questions and receive help from peers and teachers. We feel that this dynamic, online peer collaboration is one of the most unique and impactful components of Algebra Nation, as students are able to develop cooperative problem solving skills, build their math vocabularies, and help one another even if they attend different schools.

We’ve been approached by teachers and guidance counselors who feel that the Algebra Wall offers excellent opportunities for students to earn volunteer hours for the time they spend tutoring their peers. We are thrilled to hear that schools and organizations value this collaboration as much as we do, and we are happy to assist students in earning volunteer credit for their contributions on the Wall.

We understand that each school may have specific requirements for accepting community service credit. To that end, we’ve created features to help make volunteering on the Wall accessible for all students. As students answer questions on the Algebra Wall, they are awarded “Karma Points” from Study Experts, which are points awarded to students who offer thoughtful and constructive feedback to peers. We’ve made a special report that students can pull themselves, to show proof of the time they put in, and the amount of Karma Points that they earned. There is no need to sign up or register – students just go to their Account page and pull a summary report of their hours on the Algebra Wall to print and turn in to their teacher, counselor, or service-hours administrator. This report shows student activity on the Walls (with timestamps), sample screenshots of what help on the Walls might look like, and a six digit code that can be used to verify student reports online.

If you are a teacher, counselor, or service hours administrator, you can use the form below to verify your student’s Karma Point report. Enter his/her last name and the six-digit code found in the top right corner of the report.
